Stage 4 | Route description

The Dom na Peci mountain hut stands on a clearing beneath the peak on the eastern side of Mala Peca. At the start of this stage, we will ascend from the mountain hut to the peak within just a few minutes. In close proximity – just a few metres to the south – there is a red sign on a tree with the word 'Topla', where we should follow the single track trail. After a while we will see a stone with the word 'JAMA' written in red, which in this case means Topla mine. Follow this single track forest trail for around 2 hours, crossing the dried out river bed. Continue through the forest until we reach meadows then continue walking along the upper edge of the meadow back into the forest for a further 5 minutes to the Topla mine. The trail now leads past the highest lying farm in the Topla valley – the Končnik farmstead – which is situated at an altitude of 1,120 metres above sea level. Continue on the road past the former frontier guardhouse Karavla to the Planinski dom Kumer mountain hut and tourist mountain farm. After following the road for just a few minutes we will see Sv. Ana church with a statue of a black Madonna. Continue in the direction of the Planina Rep (Repija) mountain pasture and Potoški vrh, then descend alongside the Repov stream to Kos, Potočnik (Koprivna 37) and Pečnik. After approx. 1 kilometre turn right towards St. Jacob's parish church. Continue past the nearby Mežnar farm along the road (not accessible to motor vehicles) to Spodnje Sleme. Head towards Grohot past the Bukovc/Bukovnik farm, which at an altitude of 1,327 metres above sea level is the highest lying farm in Slovenia. From here it is just around half an hour to the Koča v Grohotu mountain hut
