Stage 9 | Route description
From the centre of Dravograd, follow the trail markers for Košenjak. The trail leads past the ruins of Stari grad (old castle). Nearby, there is a small hunters' hut named Grajska bajta (Castle shack). The Karawanken-Karavanke Trail mainly leads through forested areas, across meadows and, for a short time, along a road past an abandoned farmstead in Goriški vrh. Follow the cart tracks and you will soon reach the viewpoint on the Trije križi (Three Crosses) saddle. Continue past farms and along the road all the way to the Planinski dom Košenjak mountain hut. After cca. 1 hr and an altitude difference of 350 metres, you reach the top of Košenjak. Follow the red and white circular trail markers downhill towards the northeast to the Roßhütte former hunters' hut. Next, follow the forest trail straight ahead for approximately 400 metres, and at the junction of paths (250 m ahead, down to the left) take the Lavanttal hiking trail (also marked as the Panoramaweg Südalpen). Descend along the wonderful paths past the Jankitz and Rechberger farmsteads. Follow the road to the access drive to the Roth farm, where the path branches off from the road and leads across a fairly steep pasture to the village of Lorenzenberg. On reaching the asphalt road follow it downhill. After approximately 600 metres turn onto the forest road and follow it for 1.6 km to the Jamnik farm. Take the road through the farm where after 500 metres a path branches off from the road. Follow the path through a short, forested passage to the Hornig Cross (Hornig Kreuz), located on a clearing with a view of Mt. Peca. After crossing the asphalt road, descend on the zig-zig forest road and then alongside the Multererbach stream. Walk through the farm then turn left at the crossroads with the Südsteirische Grenz–Bundesstraße road. Cross the main B 80 road at the Hüttenwirt restaurant and walk past the parish church of the Assumption of Mary (Maria Himmelfahrt) to the centre of the village of Lavamünd/ Labot.
